Social Work Services
The School Social Worker is based at Westview, and also supports the nearby elementary schools -- Copperfield, Parmer Lane, and River Oaks. The social worker supports the academic success of students by assisting with social, emotional, behavioral and mental health needs. School social workers help students to build social skills, to develop and maintain healthy coping strategies, and to use positive problem-solving techniques.
Services may include:
- Crisis intervention for mental health and well-being
- Short-term counseling (individual or small group)
- Basic needs assistance (school supplies, emergency food and clothing)
- Advocacy for students and families
- Mental health education
- Community resource information and referrals
- Parent support and consultation
- Collaboration with school staff and community programs

Ms. Christine Hanlon is the Westview social worker. She has worked in, and alongside, public schools in the Austin area for over 30 years. She's a graduate of UT-Austin (twice). When she's not working, Ms. Hanlon loves to hang out with her friends and family, including her two grown-up kids and her two grandkids, and her extra large cat named 'Scout'.
