Student Success Initiative (SSI) - Impact on Grade Advancement for 5th & 8th Graders
Students will take STAAR exams in the spring of this school year. The Student Success Initiative requires that students in grades 5 and 8 pass both the reading and math* exams to be promoted to the next grade. Students in grades 5 and 8 will once again be required to pass STAAR before being promoted to the next grade level. There will be 3 opportunities for students in grades 5 and 8 to meet standard on the reading and math* assessments. In addition to the initial administrations in early April, 5th and 8th grade students who still need to meet SSI requirements will two additional opportunities as noted below.
*For the 2014-2015 school year, math will not be included in the Student Success Initiative. New curriculum is being used and the state has determined that retesting would not be appropriate.
